DESCRIPTION:Come join us for a butterfly walk! We will talk about butterfly behavior and learn how to identify different species\, and then take a walk on the prairie to look for butterflies. \nThis program is for ages 8 and up\, families welcome. DESCRIPTION:PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS PROGRAM HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR AUGUST 15TH DUE TO PREDICTED HEAVY RAINS ON ORIGINAL DATE OF AUGUST 8TH. \nJoin us as we open your eyes to the wonderful world of nature through a family-friendly\, nature-filled storytime. We’ll begin by sharing a story in both English and Spanish in the Nature PlaySpace Amphitheater at 10:30am\, and will then head to other areas of Prairie Ridge as we explore natural themes from each day’s stories in a hands-on\, interactive manner. As we explore\, we’ll learn how to say a few words relating to the day’s theme in Spanish! \nThis is a free program beginning at 10:30am. Come dressed for the weather and prepared to take a walk! Most walks will be stroller friendly. SUMMARY:Live Animal Feeding – Snapping Turtle
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a live feeding of the common snapping turtle in the Bottomland Hardwood Forest exhibit. The common snapping turtle is the largest of North Carolina’s freshwater turtles\, and lives in ponds\, streams and rivers. These turtles will eat almost anything — plants\, small animals and even dead matter. We feed our turtle a diet of vegetable matter plus occasional whole prey items. Enjoy the live feeding and meet Living Collections staff. \nThis walk-up program is offered: \n\nSunday — 11am\nThursday – 1:30pm\n\nLocation: Bottomland Hardwood Forest on the 2nd floor of the Nature Exploration Center. \nNo registration required.
