SUMMARY:Science Cafe: If Bees Had Google Maps
DESCRIPTION:Grab a bite from the Daily Planet Cafe and join host Chris Smith and special guests for our monthly Science Cafe. On the third Thursday of every month at 7pm\, gather with other curious minds at this after-hours event for an informal presentation and conversation about current science topics with guest experts. \nTonight’s Topic\nCities can be complicated to navigate. People use their GPS navigators\, mice stick to the woods and birds fly above it all… but what do bees do? We’ll look at how bees interact with roads\, buildings\, and other features as they move through the city\, and what that could mean for conservation and pollination in urban parks and gardens. \nTonight’s Guest\nDr. Elsa Youngsteadt is an assistant professor in the Department of Applied Ecology at NC State University. She and her team investigate the effects of urbanization and climate change on insects\, including bees and ants. Elsa grew up in Missouri and spent a few years in Wisconsin before settling in North Carolina\, where her favorite bee is the carpenter bee and her favorite ecosystem is the longleaf pine savanna. \nJoin us in person or watch the livestream on YouTube \nThe Daily Planet Cafe is open 5–8pm with a full menu during the Science Cafe. \n\nSpecial Exhibition: Amazing Pollinators\nAN IMMERSIVE MAZE ADVENTURE \n\nJune 15–September 29\, 2024\nOpen Tuesday–Sunday\, 10AM–5PM (last entry at 4PM)\nOffered in English and Spanish\n\nBuy Tickets\nFREE ADMISSION FOR MUSEUM MEMBERS
