SUMMARY:Educator Trek: Spring in the Mountains
DESCRIPTION:Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a hotspot for biodiversity\, and spring is a wonderful time to experience it! Examine wildflowers\, search for elk\, look for signs of the changing seasons\, and discover what’s hiding just below the surface of the forest floor. Participate in ongoing research projects in the park\, and bring home ideas and activities to teach about our interdependence with the natural world. \nCredit: 20 contact hours toward CEUs or Criteria II/III for North Carolina’s Environmental Education Certification Program \nLodging: The workshop fee covers a two-night stay near Waynesville\, NC\, double occupancy. There may be a few singles available as well. \nTransportation: Participants can ride with the group from Raleigh departing at 2pm or meet us at our lodging near Waynesville\, NC around 7pm. Transportation will be in Museum vans. \nThis workshop is full. Please join our waiting list and we will contact you if a space opens for you! \n*The cost of this Trek is reduced due to a generous gift through the Friends of the Smokies. Due to this reduction of costs\, Friends of the Museum discounts are unavailable.

DESCRIPTION:Love seeing butterflies flitting around the flowers? Ever wonder their names or how many there are? This program will introduce you to North Carolina’s wild butterflies\, how to identify them and how to become a citizen scientist butterfly monitor for the Carolinas Butterfly Monitoring Program. \nThis program is intended for adults and will be conducted entirely outdoors. Please come prepared for a walk of up to a mile over uneven terrain by wearing sturdy close-toed shoes and dressing for the weather. Long pants\, a wide brimmed hat\, and sunscreen are recommended. \nThis free program is for adults and requires pre-registration. \nRegister here!
