SUMMARY:Science Cafe: Brain Night
DESCRIPTION:Join scientists from NC State University for Brain Night at the Museum! From flies to humans and every animal in between\, brains make behavior happen. Come explore the brain/behavior connection at a special Science Cafe event on March 21. \nEvent Schedule\n6:00pm: Meet local neuroscientists and interact with hands-on brain- and behavior-themed exhibits suitable for all ages. Short\, accessible talks by neuroscientists in the Daily Planet Theater will celebrate the brain and tell you what local neuroscientists are discovering. \n7:00pm: Neuroscientist Dr. Natasha Olby will lead an exciting presentation in the Daily Planet Cafe\, followed by questions from the audience. \nOld Dogs Teaching Us New Tricks\nOne of the most difficult and frightening groups of disease that we face in humanity is neurodegenerative disease. While we are all aware that diseases like Alzheimer’s Disease and ALS are common\, fewer people are aware that dogs suffer from many of the same conditions. In this presentation\, Dr. Olby will discuss the work her group is doing to describe and treat these diseases in dogs. \nAbout our speaker\nDr. Natasha Olby is a professor of veterinary neurology and neurosurgery at the College of Veterinary Medicine at NC State University. Dr. Oldy was awarded the Dr. Kady M. Gjessing and Rhanna M. Davidson Distinguished Chair in Gerontology in 2017. She is board certified in the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine Neurology Specialty. She completed her bachelor’s degree\, veterinary degree\, and PhD in Neurosciences at the University of Cambridge\, UK. \nJoin us in person at the Daily Planet Cafe or watch online on YouTube!\n\nGrab a bite from the Daily Planet Cafe and join host Chris Smith and special guests for our monthly Science Cafe. On the third Thursday of every month at 7pm\, gather with other curious minds at this after-hours event for an informal presentation and conversation about current science topics with guest experts. The Daily Planet Cafe is open 5–8pm with a full menu during the Science Cafe.
