SUMMARY:Natural Sciences Classroom: Meet the Rodents
DESCRIPTION:Rodents can swim\, climb\, and even “fly.” They can be HUGE\, like the Capybara\, or small\, like the house mouse. We take them for granted and go to great lengths to avoid them\, but what exactly are rodents and why do they matter? Join us to learn more about these fascinating mammals\, their behaviors and the important role they play in our ecosystems. \nRegister Now!\n\nNatural Sciences Classroom occurs on Zoom once a month September-May. We recommend this program for ages 8 and up\, but all ages are welcome. Parents and teachers are invited to participate with their children or students.\nLive captions and ASL Interpretation is available upon request. Accommodation requests made less than 1 week before the program are not guaranteed\, but we will do our best.

SUMMARY:Professional Previews: Eric Lund
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wanted the opportunity to talk directly with diverse professionals in the STEAM field? Now is your chance! In this program\, we’ll get an inside look at the lives and careers of guest speakers from a variety of backgrounds\, whose stories may not fit the mold of an “average” professional in their field! Join us to learn about the barriers\, successes and unique experiences they’ve had on their journeys. \nThis month\, we’ll learn more about Paleontology with Eric Lund. \nREGISTER NOW! (Virtual Only)\nEric Lund is the SECU DinoLab Manager at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences (NCMNS). Eric comes to the Museum from Ohio University where he was the Paleontology Lab Coordinator for the O’Connor Lab and is currently finishing his doctoral work under Dr. O’Connor there. His doctoral work focuses on the evolutionary morphology and systematics of ceratopsian (horned) dinosaurs. Eric was born and raised in Salt Lake City\, Utah\, where his love of all things fossils and outdoors began. \nAs the SECU DinoLab Manager\, Eric oversees the daily activities of the DinoLab\, which include fossil preparation and conservation\, and public engagement. His favorite aspects of his job are getting to work with all the fossils\, not just the dinosaurs\, and interacting with and educating Museum visitors about paleontology and science in general. Eric is currently working on the preparation and conservation of the Dueling Dinosaurs fossil. \n\n Professional Previews will take place on Zoom. We recommend this program for middle school and up\, but all ages are welcome.
