SUMMARY:Homeschool Days at Prairie Ridge
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a morning of homeschool and alternative-education fun! For our second Homeschool Day of the 2023–2024 academic year\, we’re taking a class-based approach. Register your child for classes throughout the morning and visit with some of our partner organizations during breaks to learn about different homeschool offerings available locally! \nDetails regarding the schedule and class offerings for Homeschool Day are delineated below. \nRegistration is now closed. \nPlease submit the form once per child. Once you submit this form\, your request for registration has been submitted. Spots are filled on a first-come\, first-served basis. Once we’ve determined class availability\, we’ll be in touch via email to 1) confirm that we received your registration request\, and 2) to communicate details about how to submit payment. \nEach class session is $2/child for Museum members and $3/child for non-members. Children should be accompanied by an adult to each class. Please note that all classes will take place 100% outdoors. \nQuestions? Get ready for some hands-on nature explorations designed for early childhood audiences. \nExploring Animal Tracks (Ages 3–8) \nJoin Prairie Ridge staff as we explore some of our winter wildlife and the tracks they leave behind! \nLearning to Love Lichens (Ages 6–12) \nAre you familiar with lichen? Let’s learn more! Join our friends at the NC Department of Environmental Quality for a short lesson on lichen. What are they? How are they related to air quality? You’ll find out! \nLet’s be Citizen Scientists! (Ages 8–14) \nDid you know that winter is a great time to be a citizen scientist? Join Prairie Ridge staff as we give you the tools you need to participate in citizen science with us at Prairie Ridge\, and when you’re at home! \nWhat is Bird Banding? (Ages 10–18) \nBird banding is an incredible tool to track bird movements and learn more about bird morphology\, aging\, sexual dimorphism and more. Learn from some of the museum’s ornithologists as they demonstrate bird banding and show you their techniques up close! \nWhat’s Beneath My Toes? Exploring Soils (Ages 14–18) \nHave you ever wanted to learn more about the Earth you walk on every day? Now’s your chance! Take a walk with Prairie Ridge’s very own soil scientist as we dive into the mystery of what’s beneath our toes.
