SUMMARY:Lifelong Adventure: Winter Birds
DESCRIPTION:Lake Mattamuskeet and Pocosin Lakes National Wildlife Refuges host one of the largest concentrations of winter waterfowl along the East Coast.  Learn how to identify waterfowl\, raptors and other bird species.  Short hikes and easy viewing from the Museum bus make this an ideal trip for both novice and seasoned birders.  Birders flock from all over to see the winter waterfowl spectacle in these coastal refuges.  Black bears are often seen on this trip as well.  We will hike in a remnant virgin forest in Pettigrew State Park and visit historic Somerset Place on the edge of Phelps Lake. \nPlease note: You will be required to enter the following information for each registrant before you can complete your registration: emergency contact\, physician contact and health information (allergies\, conditions\, medications relevant to this field experience). Take a moment to gather this information before beginning your registration. \nIf selecting double occupancy\, please include the name of second participant; otherwise\, you will be paired with a randomly selected participant of the same gender. \nREGISTRATION IS FULL FOR THIS TRIP \nIf the trip is full\, please email Missy Chernick to be added to the waitlist. \nRegistration deadline:  Sunday\, November 12 at 10:00 AM \nFor additional information about this trip and other Lifelong Hikes & Adventures\, contact Jerry Reynolds at 919.707.9884.

SUMMARY:Nature Journaling Meetup
DESCRIPTION:This program is intended for ages 18+ and does not require pre-registration. \nWant to practice some fun techniques with other nature journalers? Join us for a Nature Journaling Meetup! Each meetup will feature a focal activity that we will explore as a group. For this session\, we’ll focus on winter landscapes. Come ready to have fun\, brainstorm ideas\, complete a journal entry\, and share with the group! \nDress for the weather (it may be breezy at Prairie Ridge!) and bring a filled water bottle\, your journal\, and favorite supplies. Don’t have supplies? You may purchase a $20 kit online here and pick it up during the meetup. \nWe will meet in the Outdoor Classroom\, a short walk down the gravel road from the parking lot. \nQuestions?  Contact Chris Goforth via the email address listed below!
