SUMMARY:Misunderstood Monsters
DESCRIPTION:Vultures\, snakes\, spiders … folklore and culture often depict these as scary beings\, but do we really need to fear them? In this program we’ll tour Prairie Ridge looking for some of these “monsters\,” talk about the history and culture surrounding them\, and then talk about the benefits of having these animals in our environment. \nThis program is for ages 18 and up. Please dress for the weather\, wear closed-toed shoes\, and bring water. We will meet at the entrance kiosk just inside the green entrance gates. No preregistration necessary.

DESCRIPTION:Join scientists from North Carolina State University and Duke Evolutionary Anthropology to learn about lemurs for World Lemur Day! \nLemurs are primates that only live on the island of Madagascar off the southeast coast of Africa. More than 100 species of lemurs have been identified by researchers and the vast majority of them are considered threatened or endangered with extinction. Lemurs are considered the most endangered group of mammals on Earth. Visit the 3rd floor of the Nature Research Center at the Genomics & Microbiology Research Lab to meet scientists who conduct research on lemurs to learn more about these fascinating animals and how science is helping protect lemurs from extinction.
