SUMMARY:Get BioBlitzing!
DESCRIPTION:Do you want to contribute to citizen science while also learning more about the natural world around you? Join a Prairie Ridge staff member for a nature walk as we work to document as much of Prairie Ridge’s biodiversity as we can for our Fall BioBlitz! During this program we’ll take a leisurely walk around the property while looking for a variety of lifeforms and photographing and submitting as many entries as possible to iNaturalist\, the citizen science platform where our BioBlitz data will be collected. No prior natural history knowledge or iNaturalist experience is required — just bring your excitement and willingness to learn! \nThis program is intended for adults and teens. Please bring a phone (downloading the free iNaturalist app ahead of time is helpful) or camera\, which you will use to take photos during the program.  We recommend dressing for the weather\, wearing closed-toed shoes and bringing a water bottle. We will meet at the entrance kiosk just inside our green entrance gates.

SUMMARY:Teen Science Cafe: The Unseen Jungle
DESCRIPTION:We can’t see them\, but microbes are all around—and in!—us. They influence our bodies in wonderful and sometimes weird ways\, shaping everything from our feelings to the way we smell and the foods we crave. Microbes also influence the behaviors of creatures\, like house flies and the family cat\, in our everyday lives. Dr. Eleanor Spicer Rice will reveal wild stories of microbial mind control and behavior manipulation happening on our bodies\, in our homes\, in our yards and on our food. \nRegister here \nAbout our guest\nDr. Eleanor Spicer Rice has written more than ten books about ants\, spiders\, and more delightful creatures of the natural world. She has a PhD in entomology and lives in Raleigh with her family\, including a dog\, a flock of homing pigeons and a leopard gecko named Kirby.
