SUMMARY:Gardening for Wildlife Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Want to do your part for the planet and transform your yard into a haven for wildlife? Join us to learn more about gardening with native plants and do-it-yourself features to provide shelter\, water and nesting places for birds and other wildlife. This outdoor\, hands-on program is designed for both newbie and experienced gardeners and includes native plants to take home to get you started! Completion of this program gains Environmental Education certification credit in Criteria II or III. \nThe workshop will take place in three parts with the first two being optional. \nGardening for Wildlife Workshop Schedule \n10:30am – Meet at offsite location to tour a native shade garden (optional)\nNoon – Bring your lunch to picnic and explore the Prairie Ridge property (optional)\n1:00pm-4:00pm – Main workshop at Prairie Ridge \nAll parts of this program will be conducted entirely outdoors\, so please dress appropriately for the weather\, wear closed-toed shoes\, and bring a filled water bottle. \nThis program requires registration and costs $20 for Friends of the Museum Members and $25 for non-members. \nRegister here

SUMMARY:Critter Cook-off for BugFest 2023
DESCRIPTION:Visit the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences on Friday\, Sept. 15 from 11am to noon\, for an Iron Chef-style cook-off with a twist featuring local chefs from SoulBachi and Ethio-Indi Alkaline Cuisine. These adventurous chefs will create an appetizer\, entrée and dessert incorporating ingredients ranging from crickets to superworms (darkling beetle larvae). \nThis year’s brave taste-testers will judge the buggy fare based on taste\, presentation and creativity. Our judges panel features Michelle Mackonochie\, Morning Anchor for WRAL News; Rachel Duensing\, Meteorologist for CBS17; Karen Clark\, Mid-day Personality for Foxy 107/104 Radio; and Dr. Nigel Armes\, Entomologist and Director of R&D Operations from BASF. \nYou can watch the competition in person on the first floor of the Nature Exploration Center (11 W Jones St. entrance). The program will also stream live online on YouTube.
