Learn all about caterpillars – their amazing ability to eat (and poop)\, the transformations they go through as they grow\, the ways they defend themselves from hungry predators\, and the incredible variety of colors and shapes they come in. \nRegister Now!\n\nNatural Sciences Classroom occurs on Zoom once a month September-May. We recommend this program for ages 8 and up\, but all ages are welcome. Parents and teachers are invited to participate with their children or students. \nLive captions and ASL Interpretation is available upon request. SUMMARY:Professional Previews: Alyssa Hartzheim
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wanted the opportunity to talk directly with diverse professionals in the STEAM field? Now is your chance! In this program\, we’ll get an inside look at the lives and careers of guest speakers from a variety of backgrounds\, whose stories may not fit the mold of an “average” professional in their field! Join us to learn about the barriers\, successes\, and unique experiences they’ve had on their journeys. \nThis month\, we’ll learn more about animal care at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences with Alyssa Hartzheim!\n \nREGISTER NOW!\nAlyssa Hartzheim is the current Curator of Ambassador Animals at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences (NCMNS). Prior to her time at NCMNS\, she received her B.S. in Zoology from North Carolina State University and her MSc in Biology from Arkansas State University. For her master’s Alyssa studied the innate immune response of various species of turtles and tortoises\, splitting her time between the swamps of Northeastern Arkansas and the Memphis Zoo. \nAlyssa is responsible for the daily care\, feeding\, and enrichment of over 100 animals\, ranging in size from tiny Mealworms to a 50lb Alligator Snapping Turtle. Her favorite parts of the day are redesigning enclosures and preparing the diets for the two Gopher Tortoises in the Collection. Currently\, she is working on target training the collection’s newest animals: two Domestic Rats. \n\nProfessional Previews will take place on Zoom. We recommend this program for middle school and up\, but all ages are welcome.
