SUMMARY:Lifelong Adventure: Topsail Island Sea Turtle
DESCRIPTION:Learn about sea turtles and possibly witness the hatching of sea turtles on Topsail Island.  Participants will spend evenings on the beach “nest sitting” — waiting for baby loggerhead sea turtles to leave their sandy nests.  Daytime hours can be spent swimming\, beach combing or catching up on sleep.  We will also visit the Topsail Sea Turtle Hospital to learn about their work in caring for sick and injured sea turtles. \nParticipants are responsible for motel reservations and costs.  Lodging information will be given upon completion of registration. \nPlease note: You will be required to enter the following information for each registrant before you can complete your registration: emergency contact\, physician contact and health information (allergies\, conditions\, medications relevant to this field experience). DESCRIPTION:Preregistration is required for this adult program and there is a fee to attend ($3 members; $5 non-members). Register here. \nWant to learn more about butterflies — how to identify them\, their life cycles and the host plants that support them? Did you know you can contribute to Citizen Science simply by watching butterflies? Join us to have your questions answered! \nWe will start in the Outdoor Classroom with some butterfly biology and natural history\, and then we’ll go out and look for butterflies and caterpillars in the garden and on the prairie. There\, we’ll identify and count what we found as we collect data for the citizen science project eButterfly. \nThis program is for adults. Please dress for the weather and wear closed-toed shoes. Hat and sunscreen recommended. We will meet in the Outdoor Classroom building\, a short walk down the gravel path from the Prairie Ridge parking lot. \nPlease note that registration closes August 25.
