SUMMARY:Prairie Ridge Summer Nature Adventures for Upper Elementary Students (grades 3-5)
DESCRIPTION:Put on your field scientist hats and let’s go! Whether looking for salamanders in our stream\, catching dragonflies by the pond or helping check nest boxes\, each day we’ll dive into the different habitats of Prairie Ridge and the organisms that live in these spaces through hands-on\, outdoor experiences. Each day’s offerings will be unique\, as we modify programming to reflect what’s going on in nature! Will we be searching for ladybugs? Helping collect data on our purple martin colony? Getting creative with nature art? Join us and find out! \nSummer Nature Adventures for Upper Elementary Students is a three-day\, partial-day “mini-camp” for students entering grades 3 through 5 in Fall 2023. \nSummer Nature Adventures Schedule \nMonday\, June 26 — 8:30am–12:30pm\nWednesday\, June 28 — 8:30am–12:30pm\nFriday\, June 30 — 8:30am–12:30pm \nParticipants should expect to be entirely outdoors\, bring a packed snack and lunch\, and be ready to have fun outside! \nThis program requires registration and costs $100 for Friends of the Museum Members\, and $115 for non-members. \nPreregister here. \nPlease note that completion of this form does not guarantee your child’s spot in this program\, as participants will be enrolled on a first-come\, first-serve basis until all spots have been filled. After completion of the form\, you will receive communications from staff regarding your child’s placement.

SUMMARY:Summer Blast Off! Rocketry and Astronomy at NCMNS
DESCRIPTION:3\, 2\, 1 Blast Off with Marbles\nMarbles Kids Museum\nPlay with Marbles! Train to be an astronaut and build knowledge about astronomy\, space exploration & about the tools and technology that make space research possible. \nBetabox Learning\nHow does a blue box on wheels provide hands-on learning opportunities to K-12 communities across multiple states?  Visit the Betabox exhibit to find out! Learn about their mobile labs\, check out some tech in action\, and get some information on whether they can bring an experience to your organization. \nCosmic Explorers\nUNC-Chapel Hill Department of Physics and Astronomy\nMeet astrophysicists and participate in hands-on astrophysics activities to learn more about the wonders of the Universe! \nHigh Powered Rocketry\nNC State University High Powered Rocketry Club\nLearn about the hobby of High Powered Rocketry and how they use real world rocket science. Also build your own straw rockets for launching. \nNASA’s “Eyes”\nNASA/JPL Solar System Ambassadors\nNASA’s “EYES” is a set of applications anyone can use at home on your Mac\, PC or mobile device for visualizing just about anything in space you would want to see — in scale and real-time — even 3D. See asteroids flying by Earth\, NASA spacecraft exploring the Solar System\, planets and their moons\, even alien planets that they’ve found orbiting alien stars! Created and run by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory\, they’ll show you how to use this great tool for STEM education or just for fun! \nNASA’s Deep Space Network\nNASA/JPL Solar System Ambassadors\nNASA’s Deep Space Network (DSN) sends commands and receives terabytes of data each day from spacecraft across the Solar System and beyond from the Goldstone complex near Barstow\, California; in Madrid\, Spain; and in Canberra\, Australia. Learn how DSN supports not only probes like the Voyagers and Mars Rovers but also the Artemis program which is bringing astronauts back to the Moon. \nRockets!\nNC Museum of Natural Sciences\nBlast off! Shoot a rocket using a chemical reaction (alka seltzer) and see how high it flies! \nSolar Observing and Astronomy at NCMNS\nNC Museum of Natural Sciences Astronomy and Astrophysics Research Lab\nCome get a safe glimpse of the Sun and meet the Museum’s astrophysicists.\nNote: Observing is weather-dependent. \nSolar Observing with the Raleigh Astronomy Club\nRaleigh Astronomy Club\nCome take a look at the Sun (safely) and learn some solar science with the Raleigh Astronomy Club. \nStomp Rockets\nNCSciFest\nJoin the NCSciFest team to build your own stomp rockets and see how far you can launch them! \nNCSciFest partners with organizations across the state to create one of the biggest celebrations of science in the world! The month-long\, statewide Festival features hundreds of events every April.\nThe North Carolina Science Festival is proudly produced by Morehead Planetarium and Science Center.
