SUMMARY:Prairie Ridge Summer Nature Adventures for Upper Elementary Students (grades 3-5)
DESCRIPTION:Put on your field scientist hats and let’s go! Whether looking for salamanders in our stream\, catching dragonflies by the pond or helping check nest boxes\, each day we’ll dive into the different habitats of Prairie Ridge and the organisms that live in these spaces through hands-on\, outdoor experiences. Each day’s offerings will be unique\, as we modify programming to reflect what’s going on in nature! Will we be searching for ladybugs? Helping collect data on our purple martin colony? Getting creative with nature art? Join us and find out! \nSummer Nature Adventures for Upper Elementary Students is a three-day\, partial-day “mini-camp” for students entering grades 3 through 5 in Fall 2023. \nSummer Nature Adventures Schedule \nMonday\, June 26 — 8:30am–12:30pm\nWednesday\, June 28 — 8:30am–12:30pm\nFriday\, June 30 — 8:30am–12:30pm \nParticipants should expect to be entirely outdoors\, bring a packed snack and lunch\, and be ready to have fun outside! \nThis program requires registration and costs $100 for Friends of the Museum Members\, and $115 for non-members. \nPreregister here.  \nPlease note that completion of this form does not guarantee your child’s spot in this program\, as participants will be enrolled on a first-come\, first-serve basis until all spots have been filled. After completion of the form\, you will receive communications from staff regarding your child’s placement.

DESCRIPTION:Visit Prairie Ridge for our next StoryWalk® featuring Noisy Bird Sing-A-Long\, by John Himmelman.  Our story begins just inside our entry gates where you’ll be able to begin your birding adventure around Prairie Ridge! \nBe sure to wear closed-toed shoes that can get muddy\, appropriate dress for the weather\, and bring a water bottle. Trails are mulch\, dirt or grass and small hills are included — trail strollers or baby carriers are recommended for our smallest visitors. Bring a picnic and enjoy the day (but please pack out your trash!). SUMMARY:Learning to Love Lichens (and Air Quality!)
DESCRIPTION:Elementary students(ages 5 -12) are invited to learn about the importance of air quality and air pollution reduction activities through hands-on learning experiences! In addition to learning about North Carolina’s Air Quality Monitoring system\, participants will go on a lichen safari\, collect data for participatory science programs\, and spend time reflecting in their nature journal! \nMeet in the outdoor classroom upon arrival\, a short 3–5 minute walk down the gravel road. \nProgram participants must be accompanied by an adult. \nFree\, but registration is required.
