We’ll talk about host plants\, how to identify butterflies\, look for caterpillars\, and take a walk through the garden and prairie to do a butterfly count. \nThis program is for adults 18 and up\, no prior knowledge needed. Please dress for the weather\, wear closed toed shoes\, and bring water. Hat and sunscreen are recommended. DESCRIPTION:Want to help contribute authentic data to climate change research? Join the NC Climate Change Challenge and take part in a series of quarterly challenges! We’ve got trainings\, lectures\, forums\, and other events planned to help you learn about climate change impacts in North Carolina as you help researchers learn more about climate change and develop resilience strategies. Equipment is provided to all participants – and yours to keep if you complete the challenge! First up: phenology with Nature’s Notebook.\n\nThis program will introduce you to the Nature’s Notebook citizen science project\, one that studies the impacts of climate change on the phenology of a species\, that is the timing of the events in the annual life cycle of a species. Learn how you can monitor phenology anywhere in NC in this interactive Zoom program!\n\nAll Nature’s Notebook participants will be sent a pair of binoculars after training and given access to printable resources to help you collect data at your own home or any other location of your choice in NC. Instructions for claiming your binoculars will be given during the program.\nThis virtual program requires pre-registration.  Register online here. \nThis program is part of the NC Climate Change Challenge\, a year-long project aiming to help people across North Carolina get involved in climate change research.  Each of the four seasons will have a focal citizen science project\, lectures\, and a forum to learn more about the local impacts of climate change on our state.  Complete the quarterly challenge to earn equipment and badges!  Learn more
