SUMMARY:"Preschoolers" at the Pond
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we learn about the critters that call the Prairie Ridge pond home. Designed for early childhood audiences (ages 7 and under)\, this program will provide opportunities for hands-on observations and learning opportunities focusing on a variety of underwater organisms. \nThis is a free program beginning at 10am at the Prairie Ridge pond platforms (follow the Prairie Trail over the ridge until you see the Bird Blind and pond at the bottom of the ridge). Come dressed for the weather and prepared to get wet! Please note that there will be opportunities for children to help collect organisms – if you would like your child to participate in this opportunity\, we recommend that adults and children come dressed in waterproof shoes and that participants bring a change of clothes in case of an accidental pond tumble. \nFor more information\, contact Emma Blackford at emma.blackford@naturalsciences.org or 919.707.8737. DESCRIPTION:Plodding ever onward\, NASA’s Curiosity Rover has overcome the difficulties of getting to Mars; battled seven minutes of landing terror; endured brutal Martian elements\, and improvised fixes in the face of impending equipment failure to deliver awe-inspiring images and scientific results.  Join us as NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador Ken Brandt celebrates 10 years of scientific discovery and innovation from the Curiosity Rover. \nOur speaker: \nKen Brandt is the director of the Robeson Planetarium and Science Center in Lumberton\, NC and a NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador. He is a US Navy veteran\, a former high school teacher\, and is Nationally Board Certified. In addition to his duties at the planetarium\, he is also an astronomy lecturer at USC Beaufort.  When he’s not teaching about JPL and NASA’s excellent exploration programs\, he is a devoted husband and father of three wonderful daughters\, and a grandfather to two excellent grandbabies.
