SUMMARY:Educator Trek: Secrets of the Swamp
DESCRIPTION:Explore North Carolina’s bottomland hardwood forest and experience a night in a remote swamp. We will camp on the Roanoke River Partner’s platforms in the homes of beaver\, barred owls\, and migratory songbirds. Go to sleep to the hootin’ and hollerin’ of barred owls and wake to the sweet call of prothonotary warblers. Become familiar with one of North Carolina’s true wild areas and bring new ideas and activities back to your students. The Museum has tents\, sleeping pads\, ground chairs\, and a few sleeping bags to loan if you don’t have your own camping gear! \nCredit: 16 contact hours toward CEUs or Criteria II/III for North Carolina’s Environmental Education Certification Program \nCOVID-19 Vaccination Requirement:\n \n\nFor overnight trips such as this one\, all participants are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. That includes a booster shot if you are eligible for one. Please be prepared to provide proof of vaccination at the workshop.\nAll participants\, including fully vaccinated individuals\, will need to take a rapid (antigen) test as soon as possible before the workshop. Ideally\, it would be just before you leave home or school to head to the workshop. A list of rapid tests approved by NCDHHS can be found here. If you don’t have access to a rapid test\, the Museum can provide one for you. If you need to use a Museum test\, you’ll have to arrive at the workshop 30 minutes early\, and if you test positive\, you will need to isolate and/or depart immediately.\n\nRegistration Information: This program is full.   \nIf the workshop is already full when you try to register\, please sign up for the waiting list! We will notify you as soon as possible if additional spaces become available. \nPlease note that in-person programs are subject to change or cancellation depending on COVID-19 restrictions. A full refund would be provided in event of a cancellation.
