SUMMARY:Educator Trek: Carolina Beach Coastal Exploration
DESCRIPTION:Join us on a camping adventure as we explore the natural history of the Carolina Beach area\, from carnivorous plants to coastal critters. Canoe a coastal marsh\, discuss fire ecology and flytraps\, and depart with ideas to share this coastal ecosystem with your students. Participants are encouraged to bring their own sleeping bag\, but the Museum can supply most other camping gear you might need. \nWe are reserving the following weekend\, March 18-20\, as a rain date for this workshop. Please add those dates to your calendar as well! \nCredit: 20 contact hours toward CEUs or Criteria II/III for North Carolina’s Environmental Education Certification Program \nLodging: The workshop fee covers camping fees; the Museum can provide a tent if you need one. \nTransportation: Participants will meet Museum staff at Carolina Beach State Park by 4 pm on Friday\, March 11. For travel to field sites on Saturday and Sunday\, participants will ride in Museum vehicles; face coverings will be required while in Museum vehicles. \nThis program is already full\, but if you would like to be put on the waiting list\, please fill out this form. \nAll in-person programs will follow current state and federal health guidelines and apply a range of safety measures to mitigate health risks\, including wearing masks while indoors\, in vehicles\, or in close proximity in the outdoors; smaller class sizes; moving into larger rooms (if indoors); keeping participants a safe distance from each other; and increasing sanitation efforts. \nPlease note that in-person programs are subject to change or cancellation depending on COVID-19 restrictions. A full refund would be provided in event of a cancellation.
