SUMMARY:NCCAT: Sand\, Sea\, and Citizen Science
DESCRIPTION:NOTE: This workshop is listed as Citizen Science: Interactive STEM for Active Engagement on NCCAT’s website. \nJoin the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences and NCCAT as we look at ways to enhance students’ environmental literacy through participation in citizen science projects. Get outdoors and explore North Carolina’s coastal ecology as we use the unique and beautiful ecosystems of the Outer Banks as a field laboratory to collect data. Become familiar with some of the many online citizen science databases and learn ways to use the data you and other citizens collect in your classroom. Participate in simple activities that incorporate technology\, math\, graphing\, data analysis\, and writing while introducing tools that will help you develop your own lessons and programs using citizen science data. \nRegistration information: This workshop is being offered in collaboration with the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching. Please visit NCCAT’s website for registration information.

SUMMARY:Fall Stroller Strut
DESCRIPTION:Visit Prairie Ridge for a guided tour of beautiful fall sights and sounds. We will explore seasonal changes in plants and wildlife as we enjoy a stroll down a short trail. In the spirit of Halloween\, we will also search for a few of the stranger creatures that call our Ecostation home. Register in advance and meet us just inside our entry gates at 10:00am on November 18 to join the fun! \nThis program is geared toward children six and under\, though everyone is welcome. You will walk on natural surface trails\, so a rugged stroller or carrier is recommended for younger children. Dress for the weather and wear closed-toed shoes for this program. You are invited to enjoy the Nature PlaySpace following the program and wear costumes if they are well-suited for a short hike. \nBecause this program is child-focused\, masks are required for all participants. Thank you for helping keep our children safe! We will observe social distancing recommendations and follow all state-mandated COVID restrictions. All children must be accompanied by a registered adult for the duration of the program. This program is limited to 25 people and registration is required.  Register for the program here \nNOTICE TO CHILDREN AND GUARDIANS\nIf you are under age 13 and you wish to participate in certain events or exhibits at\, conducted by\, or sponsored by the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences\, your parent or guardian must register you and provide their consent as well as your information. Please see our privacy policy at http://naturalsciences.org/about/privacy-information for additional information.
