Solar Observing

Sun viewed with a hydrogen-alpha filter. Photo: Stephen Rahn.

Join NCMNS astronomers and experienced volunteers in viewing the Sun. A solar telescope with a special filter (hydrogen-alpha) will be set up, allowing you to view a layer of the Sun that is normally not visible. You may see features such as prominences, filaments, plages, and sunspots.

Clouds, including cirrus clouds, prevent detail from being seen through the telescope, so this event is weather permitting.
