Science Saturday: The Astronomer Who Came in From the Cold

  • Saturday, June 04, 2016
  • 1:00pm - 2:00pm

Dan Caton with a 32-inch telescope

Our Presenter

Dan Caton, Appalachian State University

Astronomical observing has evolved from cold nights at the telescope to modern observing from a control room, from home, or even automatically as the astronomer sleeps!  Dan Caton will describe his own journey on this path to become an observational astronomer.

Science Saturdays is a series of lectures and demonstrations that are held on the first Saturday of each month in the SECU Daily Planet Theater at 1pm. The presentations are meant to demonstrate the vast variety of careers in scientific fields from astronomy to zoology and are most appropriate for ages 8 and older.

Science Saturdays are held in partnership with the NC State University Biomedical Engineering Department and are funded through NC Space Grant.
