Science Cafe: Using Geography to Map Data.

Learn how the City of Raleigh uses the science of geography to collect and map data in a way that makes it easy to analyze information, support decision making and share information with the public.

Guest speaker James Alberque — GIS and Emerging Technology Manager for the City of Raleigh — will talk about the City’s digital mapping technology. This includes using Geographic Information System (GIS) tools like:

  • iMAPS to understand land parcels, planning jurisdictions, voting precincts, and environmental data
  • The City’s Park Locator to find the closest park near your home, search for parks by amenity, get directions to a park and explore programs offered at parks
  • Real-time data to better understand the city as a whole
