SUMMARY:Science Cafe: Bugs in Motion
DESCRIPTION:Insect Behavior Up Close & in Slow Motion\n \nTonight’s Expert\nDr. Adrian Smith\, Head of the Evolutionary Biology & Behavior Research Lab at NCMNS and creator of the popular YouTube channel\, AntLab. \nTonight’s Topic\nMost of the fastest animals on Earth are arthropods. They swing their appendages\, snap their jaws and propel their bodies at incredible speeds\, sometimes using spring-loaded mechanisms. But because of their small size and cryptic lifestyles\, the behaviors of many of these fast-moving organisms have yet to be captured on video\, or described. Here\, Dr. Adrian Smith presents his work of filming the behaviors of things like trap-jaw ants\, beetles\, moths and springtails\, and telling those stories to both popular and professional audiences. Dr. Smith will show footage and describe behaviors that reveal how remarkable these organisms are. \nPlease join us in person at the Daily Planet Cafe or watch online on YouTube! \n\nGrab a bite from the Daily Planet Cafe and join host Chris Smith and special guests for our monthly Science Cafe. On the third Thursday of every month at 7pm\, gather with other curious minds at this after-hours event for an informal presentation and conversation about current science topics with guest experts. The Daily Planet Cafe is open 5–8pm with a full menu during the Science Cafe.
