DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wanted the opportunity to talk directly with professionals with diverse backgrounds\, experiences\, and expertise in STEAM fields? Now is your chance! Professional Previews is a virtual program that will feature guests from a variety of fields answering questions about their jobs\, career paths\, and fun\, random facts about themselves. \nJoin us to learn more about science communication with Dr. Adrian Smith and Michelle Jewell! \nREGISTER NOW! \nMichelle Jewell is a science communicator for NC State’s Department of Applied Ecology and the USGS’s National Climate Adaptation Science Center. She is also the President of the Science Communicators of North Carolina and a television host for Shark Week. Michelle earned her M.Sc. from the University of Cape Town\, B.Sc. from Michigan State University\, and won her high school’s battle of the bands. Follow her on Twitter and Instagram. \nAdrian Smith is the Head of the Evolutionary Biology & Behavior Research lab at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences and faculty in Biological Sciences at NC State University. He is an entomologist focused on insect behavior and natural history. He also produces and publishes online media on his YouTube channel Ant Lab and for the PBS-NC program SciNC. His media can be found on YouTube @AntLab and Instagram @DrAdrianSmith. \nBoth Michelle and Adrian have careers that revolve around taking complex topics and making them understandable to a wider audience. Most discoveries are shared via scientific journals\, which can cost money to access and take a lot of practice to fully comprehend. Science communicators focus on plain language and engaging platforms to make science and the scientific process accessible\, memorable\, and interesting! Join us to learn how these two scientists use different techniques from TV interviews\, to viral videos to share their knowledge! \n\nProfessional Previews will take place on Zoom. Programs are recorded and registrants can access previous topics. \nWe recommend this program for middle school and up\, but all ages are welcome. Parents and teachers are invited to participate with their children or students.
