Photosynthesis is one of the most important biological processes on Earth — without it, the food chain would fall apart. Cellular respiration is used by organisms to harvest the energy stored during photosynthesis. In this class students conduct experiments that explore these two vital life processes. Using Vernier LabQuest interfaces and CO2 gas sensors, students collect data that allow them to determine the effects of various light treatments on the rate of photosynthesis and cellular respiration. Special attention will be paid to experimental design and the importance of controls, dependent and independent variables, and testable hypotheses.
Note: Parents do not need to attend the lab with their child but do need to remain in the Museum.
