DESCRIPTION:Event Sold Out\n5:30pm–7pm: Live music and science stations. Food and drinks for sale.\n7pm: Movie begins in the WRAL 3D Theater\, followed by commentary and movie trivia. \nThe Princess Bride (1987)\n“When I was your age\, television was called books. And this is a special book. It was the book my father used to read to me when I was sick\, and I used to read it to your father. And today I’m gonna read it to you.” \nJoin us for a special story time at our November 7th installment of Museum Movie Night. A kindly grandfather sits down with his grandson and reads him a bedtime story. The story is one that has been passed down through from father to son for generations. As the grandfather reads the story\, the action comes alive. The story is a classic tale of love and adventure as the beautiful Buttercup is kidnapped and held against her will in order to marry the odious Prince Humperdinck\, and Westley (her childhood beau\, now returned as the Dread Pirate Roberts) attempts to save her. On the way he meets an accomplished swordsman and a huge\, super strong giant\, both of whom become his companions in his quest to rescue Buttercup. In addition to science activities and stations before the movie\, we’ll host an expert and movie trivia (with prizes) following the screening. Don’t miss it! \nThis movie is rated PG. \nSold Out \nCheck out the upcoming movies and learn more about Museum Movie Night: Where Science meets the Cinema. \n\nSCIENCE STATIONS (5:30–7PM)\nThe Genetics of the Six-Fingered Man\nExplore the genetics of the 6-fingered man and other unique features brought to us by our DNA! \nFight a Pirate\nThe Sword Conservatory\nThe Sword Conservatory (TSC) is an educational non-profit organization and teaches weekly classes in historical sword fighting\, sport fencing\, and stage combat through Holly Springs Parks and Recreation. TSC also gives demonstrations and teaches at festivals\, local venues\, schools\, homeschool groups and civic organizations. \nUnusual Rodents of All Sizes\nTruth is\, most rodents are small.  We’ll have specimens representing diversity in size and ecological niches. \nIf You Haven’t Got Your Data\, You Haven’t Got Anything\nDo these words mean what you think they mean? Find out what all those random letters and numbers stand for on our fossils\, and why it’s so important to keep those notes tidy. \nFire Swamps Are the Place to Be!\nLots of animals call the swamp their home.  Lots of other animals have evolved to live in habitats that are fire-dependent.  Surely all these critters will love the Fire Swamp!  Meet some live friends and learn about their firey and swampy lifestyles. \nOrigami Fortune Teller Craft\nCreate your own special Princess Bride origami fortune teller craft\, just like we made in middle school! \nHello\, My Name Is…Nametag Craft\nYou know you need a personalized “Hello\, My Name Is…” nametag! \nBug Love\nThe Princess Bride is a love story.  Do you know who else has love stories?  BUGS!  Bugs have evolved some incredible strategies for reproduction! From pheromones to elaborate displays\, come learn how bugs find “that special someone!” \n\nOUR SPEAKER\n \nLisa Gatens\, NCMNS Collections Manager for Mammalogy. \nIn my 26 years with the NCMNS\, and for many years prior\, I have primarily studied small mammals\, most of which are rodents.  Though some rodents are indeed large (think capybara\, or our native beaver)\, most are small.  And though small in size\, they are quite charismatic!  Let’s hear it for our charismatic microfauna!” \nPlan to stay after to movie ends to play movie trivia and ask Lisa all you want to know about R.O.U.S.! \n\nMUSIC (5:30–7PM)\n\nSinger/songwriter William Woltz is a North Carolina native who covers a lot of musical territory. He grew up loving both the Beatles and Buck Owens while studying jazz and classical guitar. These days he plays a mix of bluesy originals and interesting cover tunes\, always striving for the right blend of old favorites and unexpected treasures. Come prepared to be entertained. \n\nFood and Drinks (5:30-7pm)\nAvailable for purchase will be an assortment of grab and go snacks and drinks\, including wraps\, chips\, and popcorn. \n\nThe Princess Bride- 1987 (PG)\n \n\n \n\n \n\nDirected by Rob Reiner and starring Cary Elwes\, Mandy Patinkin\, Chris Sarandon\, Christopher Guest\, and Wallace Shawn. In this enchantingly cracked fairy tale\, the beautiful Princess Buttercup and the dashing Westley must overcome staggering odds to find happiness amid six-fingered swordsmen\, murderous princes\, Sicilians and rodents of unusual size. But even death can’t stop these true lovebirds from triumphing. \n
