Walt Disney Animation Studios’ feature film “Encanto” tells the tale of the Madrigals\, an extraordinary family who lives in a wondrous\, charmed place called an Encanto. Each child has been blessed with a magic gift unique to themselves — each child except Mirabel. But when the family’s home is threatened\, Mirabel may be their only hope. \nWe’ll host an expert and movie trivia (with prizes) following the screening. Don’t miss it! \nCheck out the upcoming movies and learn more about Museum Movie Night: Where Science meets the Cinema. \n\nEncanto (PG)\n \n\n \nABOUT THE MOVIE\n“Encanto” tells the tale of an extraordinary family\, the Madrigals\, who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia\, in a magical house\, in a vibrant town\, in a wondrous\, charmed place called an encanto. The magic of the Encanto has blessed every child in the family with a unique gift — from super strength to the power to heal — every child except one: Mirabel. But when she discovers that the magic surrounding the Encanto is in danger\, Mirabel decides that she\, the only ordinary Madrigal\, might just be her exceptional family’s last hope. \n\nOUR SPEAKER\nDr. Mike Cove\, the Museum’s Research Curator of Mammalogy\, is an applied conservation ecologist and mammalogist. His research approach uses traditional methods and museum collections\, as well as current noninvasive survey techniques and statistical modeling procedures\, to study population and community ecology both locally and internationally. His research interests are mainly focused on the conservation of mammal communities\, but also mesopredator release and trophic cascades\, the urban/suburban wildlife interface\, species invasions\, disease ecology and animal microbiomes\, and human dimensions of conservation and sustainable development in the tropics. Mike is an active member of the IUCN’s Small Mammal Specialist Group\, Small Carnivore Specialist Group\, and Tapir Specialist Group. \n\n\n\n\nSCIENCE STATIONS (5:30–7PM)\nColombian Dance Exhibition\nTakiri Academy\nEnjoy the passion and strength of traditional Colombian dance with Takiri Academy.
