SUMMARY:Lunchtime Discovery: AI and The Science of Connection: How Knowledge Graphs Reveal Hidden Patterns in Biomedicine
DESCRIPTION:Join us in-person in the Daily Planet Theater or watch the livestream on YouTube. \nWhat if you could ask a computer\, “What connects this gene\, this drug\, and this disease?” – and get back biologically reasonable answers with real data? Kathleen Carter works at the intersection of biology\, data\, and artificial intelligence developing biomedical knowledge graphs. These structured and interconnected “maps of science” reveal how data points relate to one another. Much like a GPS for information\, these graphs help both researchers and Al systems navigate complex scientific landscapes making data more interpretable and actionable. Join us to learn how her work is making biomedical data more accessible\, reliable\, and impactful for the scientific community and the broader public. \nKathleen Carter\, Bioinformatics Data Scientist\, Renaissance Computing Institute at UNC Chapel Hill \nThis presentation is the first talk in a series on AI and Data Science with the Renaissance Computing Institute at UNC Chapel Hill and the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences: \n\nTuesday\, February 24\, at noon in the SECU Daily Planet Theater and online\nTuesday\, March 24\, at noon in the SECU Daily Planet Theater and online\nThursday\, April 16\, from 6:00-8:00 PM: Science Café: Illuminating AI\n\n\nLive Presentation hosted by NC Museum of Natural Sciences’ SECU Daily Planet Curator Chris Smith and the NC Department of Environmental Quality Office of Environmental Education and Public Affairs staff. Brought to you by the NC DEQ Office of Environmental Education and Public Affairs and the NC Museum of Natural Sciences.
