Live Animal Feeding – Snapping Turtle

  • Thursday, November 28, 2024
  • 1:30pm - 1:45pm

Common snapping turtle with its brown neck extended, revealing a bumpy texture.

Join us for a live feeding of the common snapping turtle in the Bottomland Hardwood Forest exhibit. The common snapping turtle is the largest of North Carolina’s freshwater turtles, and lives in ponds, streams and rivers. These turtles will eat almost anything — plants, small animals and even dead matter. We feed our turtle a diet of vegetable matter plus occasional whole prey items. Enjoy the live feeding and meet Living Collections staff.

This walk-up program is offered:

  • Sunday — 11am
  • Thursday – 1:30pm

Location: Bottomland Hardwood Forest on the 2nd floor of the Nature Exploration Center.

No registration required.
