Food scraps and yard trimmings account for more than a quarter of household waste. Rather than putting this waste in a landfill, learn how to compost at home. This presentation will take attendees through the fundamentals of composting and a variety of at-home composting options.
Our instructor, Shannon Culpepper joined the Chatham County Solid Waste and Recycling Division in November 2015. As the Recycling & Education Specialist she manages the County’s recycling, waste reduction, and household hazardous waste programs. Prior to working for Chatham County, she worked in the North Carolina Division of Air Quality as an AmeriCorps member for two years and the New Hanover County Department of Environmental Management for five years. She completed a Master of Public Administration and Environmental Studies Graduate Certificate from UNC Wilmington in May 2013. Shannon is has served on the board of directors of Environmental Educators of North Carolina for six years; a non-profit working to build connections, provide professional development, and promote excellence in environmental education.
