RALEIGH – North Carolina has never seen an Earth Day celebration like the one planned for Saturday, April 19, 2008 at the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in downtown Raleigh. The Museum has partnered with Burt’s Bees and the City of Raleigh for Planet Earth Day Celebration 2008, for one of the largest and most exciting educational celebrations of our planet ever. Free.

Rain or shine, the fun begins 11 a.m. and runs through 7 p.m. both inside the Museum and outdoors along our plaza and the State Capitol grounds.Visitors are encouraged to use an alternate means of transportation to travel to and from the celebration. Capital Area Transit (CAT) is offering system wide fare-free day in an effort to encourage commuters to "go green" and leave their cars at home. CAT buses are equipped with bike racks for riders who may want to bike to a bus stop and ride to the event.

Over 50 stations will provide visitors with much needed information on how to make their lives more "green" and our local and global environment more healthy. Complete with local music and artists as well as food and beer, a sustainable design competition and kid zone, the day is bound to make for a beautiful and informative spring day in downtown Raleigh.  Planet Earth Day Celebration 2008 will be a green festival, managed and operated in a way that will minimize its footprint, and will optimize use of goods and services that respect the Earth.

DENR's Division of Forest Resources will also recognize Raleigh's 20th anniversary as a Tree City USA Community and NC State University's College of Natural Resources will give out 3,000 free saplings to attendees.
