Touch a snake, hold a turtle, make a cockroach hiss during 'Meet the Animals' WeekMay 14, 2007RALEIGH — A great opportunity to 'lunch and learn' kicks off next week at the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences with a fun filled activity for the whole family. The Museum's annual "Meet the Animals Week" will be held May 14 - 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily on Bicentennial Plaza between the Museum and the N.C. Museum of History. Several varieties of animals will be on display each day ranging from snakes to turtles to tarantulas, as well as crowd favorites like Madagascar Hissing cockroaches, bearded dragons and our blue-tongued skink. The Museum contains enough animals to qualify as mid-sized zoo! Nearly 3,500 individual live animals (including fish and insects), representing 270 species or subspecies live in Museum exhibits. The public is encouraged to learn more about wildlife — and touch an animal — at one of several, free, daily programs lasting 20–30 minutes. For more information about "Meet the Animals" Week, contact Tricia Blakistone at 919.733.7450, ext. 523.
