Learn about sea turtles and possibly witness the hatching of sea turtles on Topsail Island.  Participants will spend evenings on the beach “nest sitting”-- waiting for baby loggerhead sea turtles to leave their sandy nests.  Daytime hours can be spent swimming, beach combing or catching up on sleep.  We will also visit the Topsail Turtle Hospital to learn about their work in caring for sick and injured sea turtles.  Weather and time permitting, we will drive through Holly Shelter Game Land on our return to Raleigh to see Venus Fly-traps, other carnivorous plants, native orchids, and maybe an alligator or two.

There will be an information/orientation session at the Museum on Thursday, September 10, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 pm.

Activity Level: Easy (long periods of time on beach at night)

Leader(s): Jerry Reynolds & Shane Christian, Museum Educators
