In honor of our special exhibition, Rainforest Adventure, we’re offering our most exclusive member tour to date — a behind-the-scenes look at our reptile and amphibian collections by Gabriella Hogue, Collections Manager of Fishes, in the Wet Lab at Prairie Ridge Ecostation.
The Museum’s amphibian and reptile collection is one of the largest and most complete regional collections in the United States, containing more than 78,300 cataloged records consisting of about 200,000 specimens. Approximately 80% of the collection consists of North Carolina material, although at least 45 states, 24 countries, and 650 species are represented. The collection houses fluid-preserved specimens, skeletons, skins, tissues for molecular analyses, and other materials.
Space is very limited. Registration required. All members ages 10 and older are welcome, but those under 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult. No strollers allowed.
Both sessions are now FULL.
