Innovations in Health Day at the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences' NRC, Saturday, June 15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
RALEIGH — The North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences — along with WakeMed, Rex Hospital, Duke Clinical Research Institute, UNC-CH Medical School and other health care providers — will showcase amazing innovations and advances in the fields of health and wellness at Innovations in Health Day, Saturday, June 15 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. inside the Nature Research Center (NRC). Doctors, scientists and researchers will engage the public with interactive and hands-on activities and talks on exciting and cutting-edge research happening in North Carolina. There will be table-top exhibits, games and crafts for children, demonstrations, and a variety of speakers in the SECU Daily Planet Theater at 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. Speakers include Dr. Ben Walker of Rex Heart & Vascular and Head Athletic Trainer for the Carolina Hurricanes, Peter Friesen.
Displays from Rex Hospital include Rex Surgical Services, where visitors can simulate surgery with a tummy cage, laparoscopic tools, camera and video. Kids will also be able to “operate” and retrieve a small prize from the tummy. Rex Outpatient Rehabilitation Services will offer backpack safety tips for kids and the Rex Emergency Response Team (ERT) will give life-saving tips you can use during an emergency.
Experts will also be on hand to discuss a variety of subjects on health related issues. Table-top stations include, Avoiding Caregiver Burnout, Gene Therapy/Vector Core, Simulation and Gaming in Health Care, and Identifying Eating Disorders.
