About the Speaker
Dr. Dianne Glave is a social historian who specializes in African American and environmental history. She will discuss her recent book, “Rooted in the Earth: Reclaiming the African American Environmental Heritage.” In “Rooted in the Earth,” Dr. Glave draws upon African American art, literature, history, and theology to recount the bond with nature that has long been part of the black experience. She begins each chapter with reflections on her life experiences as a scientist to connect the humanities and science.
Dr. Glave’s talk is the second in a three part series titled Science From a Personal Perspective — How Life Stories Help Us Learn, funded in part by the North Carolina Humanities Council.
