Thursdays at the Daily Planet Café

For those knowledge-hungry people who just can’t wait till Friday, the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in downtown Raleigh is offering Science Cafés at 7pm every Thursday night. Hosted by the Museum’s Daily Planet Café, these free, science-centric programs range from Science Trivia, where you can gain an edge on your competitors if you know how many pounds of bacteria the average person has on their body, to Lightning Talks that feature several brief presentations from local scientists and where you might have the Big Bang Theory explained to you in five minutes or less. 

Science Cafés will also include longer format presentations and interviews (why should you care about solar flares?), reports from Museum scientists returning from the field (why are we swabbing baboon armpits in Kenya?), conversations about particular and sometimes peculiar foods or beverages (what is so interesting about cheese?), perhaps even the occasional open mic night (know any good science jokes?). All programs take place in the Daily Planet Café, located on the corner of Jones and McDowell streets.

What’s cooler than absolute zero? Find out at Science Trivia nights at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences, where questions feature a mix of science facts, current news, pop culture and scientific discoveries. Held in the new wing's Daily Planet Cafe on the first Thursday of every month, this is a great opportunity to mingle with friends, compete for prizes and bragging rights ... and perhaps even learn something cool.
