Tamara Poles is a Virginia native who brings her energy, creativity, and her passion for science, education, and communication, to develop and coordinate programs for the museum. As Coordinator of Distance Learning in the NRC, she develops and presents programs to groups who are unable to visit the museum, from the museum using its state-of-the-art technology.

Tamara is new to North Carolina but, is not new to museums and education. Prior to this position, she was the Nature and Outdoor Education Manager at the Virginia Museum of Natural History. Where she developed and coordinated the Martinsville-Henry County Community Nature Initiative, Martinsville-Henry County’s first nature and outdoor educational program. She has received state and national recognition for her pioneering efforts in program development. A few of her national accolades are, she was selected to be a Natural Leader in the National Natural Leaders Network which is part of the national Children and Nature Network, she was selected to be the Operations Coordinator for the Natural Leaders Legacy Team, she was selected by the Sierra Club to be a Sierra Club Global Population and Environment Fellow, and she serves as a scientific consultant for the Clergy Letter Project. In her free time she loves to play sports, watch movies, and enjoy nature.
