Requirements:

Classroom teachers and assistants (any grade/subject), administrators, pre-service or substitute teachers; informal educators such as park and nature center staff & volunteers; anyone working on their NC Environmental Education certification.

Location: In the Field - Yellowstone National Park, Montana and Wyoming

Fee:

TBA (includes airfare from Raleigh to Bozeman, MT; ground transportation; lodging; a snowcoach excursion; & snowshoe rental)

Glimpse the spectacular natural wonders of America’s first National Park and discover its charismatic inhabitants — elk, wolves, bison and more. Explore the connections between Yellowstone and North Carolina and discuss how to link your experiences to the classroom. Via the Museum’s Web site, your students will be able follow our adventures in this winter paradise by reading daily journals and viewing pictures [2] of the incredible beauty and wildness that we experience.

Due to the popularity, expense and extreme conditions of this trek, we have instituted an application process. For an application, contact Melissa Dowland [3] at 919.707.9898. No deposit is necessary until selections have been made. Applications are due at the Museum by Friday, September 28, 2012.

NOTE: Based on previous trips, we anticipate a cost for Yellowstone in Winter of around $1600 (but may be more or less than this amount). Actual cost will be determined closer to date of trip. Deposit of $500 will be due upon acceptance; balance will be due at Orientation on Dec 3.
