Visitor Info

Prairie Ridge Ecostation was established by the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences for research and educational purposes.  Visitors are welcome to walk the designated trails during the posted hours.

Monday – Friday
9:00 am – 4:30 pm

Saturday - Sunday

12:00 pm - 4:30 pm

Prairie Ridge is not open state holidays.
The main gate is locked at 5:00 pm daily.

Location and Trip Planning

Prairie Ridge currently has two walking trails open to the public. Public restrooms are not yet available at the facility.

Prairie Ridge is located at 4301 Reedy Creek Road, Raleigh, N.C. , next to the National Guard Armory.  The entrance is adjacent to the rear gate of the Armory. Map

Rules and Regulations

Prairie Ridge was established to protect wildlife, provide outdoor learning opportunities and promote respect for natural resources.  

Do:

  • Carry out all trash and litter
  • Enjoy the natural sounds
  • Park in designated areas only
  • Leave your bike in the racks provided
  • Leave plants, animals, and minerals as you find them

Don’t:

  • Bring dogs or other pets
  • Play amplified music
  • Use campfires, firearms or fireworks
  • Bring or consume alcoholic beverages on premises
  • Smoke on property
