Christmas
fern is an evergreen that grows in damp areas in North Carolina. It
looks like the common houseplant, Boston fern, with pinnae, or small
leaflets along the stem. Pinnae are shaped like long triangles with
an "ear" on one side. Some say this ear resembles the toe
of a Christmas stocking, although the Christmas fern probably got its
name from use in holiday floral arrangements.
