Phoebis sennae
In
autumn, particularly along North Carolina's coast, people see impressive
numbers of butter-yellow butterflies flying about. Mark their course
and you'll notice that they're heading north. These are cloudless
sulphurs, a tropical species whose populations build until
there are massive emigrations. Cold weather ultimately dooms their progression
and we don't see them again until next year.
