Abbreviated Client Requirements

To ensure a safe, enjoyable event for you and your guests, the Friends organization requires that you follow certain rules. Following is an abbreviated list of Client Requirements. The complete list is included with your contract.

GENERAL INFORMATION

  1. The N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences closes at 5:00 pm. Once the Museum is closed, event set up can commence. Event rentals begin at 6pm. All events must end by 10pm.
  2. Smoking is prohibited throughout the Museum.
  3. The Client shall provide greeters for the event. Greeters should remain at the front entrance of the Museum for the first half-hour of the event and direct invitees to the event area.
  4. The Client’s caterer must be on the Friends' List of Approved Caterers. Donated food is not permitted.
  5. Security personnel must be on duty from one half-hour prior to event commencement to one half-hour after the event ends. The cost of security personnel is to be paid by the Client and is non-refundable.
  6. Decorations may not be attached to walls.
  7. Cut flowers may be used in certain event areas and the lobby, but only artificial decorations may be used in the exhibit halls. Live, potted plants may not be used as decoration anywhere in the Museum.
  8. Helium-filled balloons are prohibited inside the Museum building.
  9. Amplified music is only allowed in certain areas on the First and Second floors of the Museum. The Friends of the Museum Event Rental Staff will let you know where these areas are located.
  10. A dance floor must be used in all areas designated for dancing. It must be removed the night of the event.
  11. Bubbles, popcorn, sequins, confetti, fog machines etc. are not allowed in the Museum.
  12. An ABC permit is required for any event at which alcoholic beverages are served. Per State law and ABC commission regulations, beer, wine and champagne are the only alcoholic beverages permitted at events. Obtaining the permit is the responsibility of the Client.

The Museum reserves the right to refuse any event, or to slightly alter an event's layout, menu, or other detail to meet museum guidelines. We will work with you to ensure that your event is a wonderful occasion and conforms to museum guidelines.
