Program begins in the Naturalist Center with a discussion of biodiversity and then moves to the Living Conservatory where students experience a Central American dry tropical forest and observe live plants and animals characteristic of this habitat.
The First World Wide Web
Grade 6
Science Curriculum Correlation: Population Dynamics
Starting in the Naturalist Center, students observe the global food web through North Carolina’s connections with the New World tropics. They examine the diversity of tropical ecosystems and discuss interactions among forests, mangroves and reefs. In the Conservatory, students discover survival strategies of several tropical plants and animals.
Bringing the Outdoors In: Why and How?
Grade 7
Science Curriculum Correlation: Atmosphere
Why does a North Carolina museum have tropical exhibits? It’s all about connections — shared species, products and weather. What do we know and what questions are scientists still trying to answer? In addition to exploring tropical migrations, learn about the technology, both complex and simple, that maintains a piece of Tropical Dry Forest on the fourth floor of the Museum.
