Homeschool Day at Prairie RidgeMonday, April 7, 2008 FEE: $3 per person (Please note that children must be accompanied by at least one adult.) Fee includes up to two special programs. Children three and under admitted free. The day will be divided into two sessions.
Activities for Ages 4 through 7
Dress for the weather and bring a snack, we’re off to explore Prairie Ridge! Age-appropriate activities, including building fairy houses and pond dipping will occupy our time. Programs for Ages 8 and up
Bird BandingLearn about our native birds and how scientists study them. Participants will learn the basics of bird banding and what questions scientists are researching. Participants should dress for the weather and be able to traverse uneven ground. Pond LifeInvestigate life in the pond. Perform pond sampling activities at the water’s edge and discover the importance of having a pond in the prairie. Stone Age NaturalistStep back in time to see how nature was viewed by earlier cultures. We will identify plants and animals that were used for medicine, food and utilitarian purposes. We will learn how to make fire by rubbing sticks together, make rope from natural materials, create a unique lighting source and determine direction, all from things found in nature.
