Distance Learning Workshops

Want to know more about using your school grounds to support your curriculum? Need the expertise of a Museum naturalist, but are unable to visit the Museum? Join us for our teacher education workshops on the N.C. Information Highway!

Materials for hands-on activities are shipped to your distance learning site prior to the workshop. A minimum of eight teachers per site is required. For more information or to register for a workshop, contact MT Palmer, coordinator of distance learning, at 919.733.7450, ext. 621.

INSECTS AND SPIDERS
Available Tuesday–Friday upon request
Time: 2 hours
Cost: $10 per participant

Discover the insects and spiders you never knew were just outside your school walls and learn how to integrate them into your teaching. Each participant will receive activities and materials for their classroom.

TRACKS AND SIGNS
Available Tuesday–Friday upon request
Time: 2 hours
Cost: $10 per participant

Learn the art of using tracks and signs to study animal behavior. Each participant will receive activities and materials for their classroom.

SIGNS OF SPRING
Available Tuesday–Friday upon request
Time: 2 hours
Cost: $10 per participant

Explore the signs of spring on your school grounds. Workshop focuses on amphibians, birds and plants. Each participant will receive activities and materials for their classroom.

DISTANCE LEARNING SAMPLER

The Museum offers Distance Learning “Field Trips” for students, but what are these programs like and how do they work? This workshop gives you the opportunity to experience videoconferencing technology and to learn how to use this technology to provide quality natural history instruction for your students. Portions of up to three Distance Learning “Field Trips” can be included.

OUTDOOR SCIENCE FOR YOUNG CHILDREN
Available upon request mid-September–May
Time: 2 hours
Cost: $10 per session
Day Care Renewal Credit: 2 hours

Discover how you can turn a playground jaunt into a mini-field trip full of “wildlife” and nature discoveries. See how math and science concepts can be woven into a nature walk. We’ll also share our secrets of easy-tocare- for classroom animals. Each session includes a make-and-take.
