10/16/05 - We're off! |
It took awhile, but we finally loaded all our gear and got everything stowed and lashed down.
We did not pull away from the dock until 5:00 p.m., so we were able to spend
some time creating and modifying traps for use on the sub. It was a beautiful
evening as we headed out toward Cape Lookout Shoals. We took a group picture
on the bow before a delicious dinner. Afterwards we watched a safety video,
then had a safety briefing with the captain. Standing on the deck behind the bridge, we enjoyed a gorgeous sunset in
the west and a moonrise in the east. Later we had a sub briefing followed by a science team meeting. We certainly have
had our share of orientations!
We are supposed to be at our first target location by 11:00 p.m. We will begin
sampling with the Neuston Net immediately. Our first sub dive is scheduled for 8:00
a.m. Monday morning. We are looking forward to getting started!
