What is the biggest waterfall in Yellowstone? The 1st grade, Wiley Elementary, Wake County

The Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River, at 308 feet, is the largest. Yellowstone contains almost 300 waterfalls that are at least 15 feet in height.

Describe the night sky in Yellowstone. Sara, Newport Middle School, Carteret County

Montana is known as Big Sky country, and it is easy to see why. Because few areas have artificial light, the Yellowstone sky is ablaze with stars. All of our familiar constellations are bright and visible. Because the sky is so dark, we are able to see many more stars than are visible in most parts of North Carolina. However, since we’re at 45 degrees latitude, the sun rises early and sets late, so we have to stay up late — past 10 pm — to see all the stars!

Are there places where the snow is still deep in the summer, what is the average depth, and what is the highest depth you recorded while there? Christian and Blade, 8th grade, Table Rock Middle School, Burke County

Though the snow is not deep where we’ve been traveling in the Park (mostly in the valleys), the peaks are still snow-covered. Today we traveled to the Beartooth Mountains, where the snow was very deep! Along the roadsides, there were walls of snow (left behind after snow-plowing) that were 10 to 12 feet high! We had two snowball fights, made snow angels and built a snowman!
