Plant Biotechnology in Agriculture & Medicine (Two-part Series)

What IS plant biotechnology and what is a “model” plant? What are GMOs, where did they come from, and what technology what might be coming next? Through lab exercises and discussion, we will explore the history and science of these topics. We will also touch on ethics, issues related to public health threats & world hunger, the production of such important medicines as insulin and malarial drugs, and new technologies such as CRISPR.
There is no prerequisite for this program.

Note: Parents do not need to attend the lab with their child but do need to remain in the Museum.

This Program is a Two-part Series:

Part 1:  January 23, 2018, 10:00am–noon
Part 2:  January 30, 2018, 10:00am–noon

  • Fee: $35 per participant; $32 Member participant (plus tax)
  • Requirements: Minimum age 12 yrs. Parents do not need to attend the lab with their child but do need to remain in the Museum. Prerequisite: None
