Update 4/6/18: Due to predicted poor weather, this program has been canceled.
- iNaturalist is an amazing online platform that allows people everywhere to document the wildlife around them and share their observations with everyone, including scientist. It can also be used as a great educational and monitoring tool for K-12 classrooms and environmental education centers. In this workshop, you will learn the basics of iNaturalist — how to enter data, how to navigate the website, and how to use the smartphone app. You’ll get hands-on practice in the field collecting and entering your observations. You’ll also learn how to set up your own projects in iNaturalist, discuss how to use iNaturalist in programming/lessons, and discuss how you can use your data to answer scientific questions.
This program is a great introduction to using iNaturalist in time for the City Nature Challenge!
This workshop will take place entirely outdoors at Prairie Ridge. Please come dressed for the weather, and bring a water bottle, a smartphone and/or digital camera if you have one, and a laptop, smartphone, tablet, or other device to access the iNaturalist website if possible. Please let us know if you will not be able to bring a camera and/or a web accessible device when you register — we may be able to let you borrow one.
Pre-registration is required and this program is open to people ages 14+. For more information or to register, contact Chris Goforth at firstname.lastname@example.org.
